Today is a red-letter day for the Ohio beer scene – a milestone set to be written into brewery ledgers the length and breadth of the state. August 31st 2016 officially sees the lifting of the draconian legislation that previously made it illegal for breweries in Ohio to brew beer over 12% abv. From this day forward, craft beer in the state has no limits. And we are going to mark that in the only way we know.

Our first brew in BrewDog Columbus will be The End of History, for our US Equity Punks.

We couldn’t think of a better way to thank our legion of new stateside supporters whilst at the same time celebrating the freedom the tireless campaigners in Ohio’s craft beer scene have helped secure. The End of History is our iconic 55% abv Belgian-style ale brewed with nettles and juniper, so we are unleashing the full potential of our American brewkit right from the start, flipping two fingers at the defeated neo-prohibitionists at the same time.

The End of History will be released as an exclusive beer for our Equity for Punks USA shareholders who invest more than $20,000. It is a beer that pushes the limits of what brewing can do, what beer is, and sees it collide with art along the way. In true BrewDog fashion The End of History has torn up convention, blurred distinctions and pushed brewing to its absolute limits. An audacious blend of eccentricity, artistry and rebellion; it changes the perception of beer. The impact of The End of History is a perfect conceptual marriage between art, taxidermy and craft brewing. The bottles are at once beautiful and disturbing – they disrupt conventions and break taboos, just like the beer they hold within them. And the name? It derives from the famous work of philosopher Francis Fukuyama – implying that The End of History is to beer what democracy is to history.

We wouldn’t have a brewery without our army of Equity Punks, it’s that simple. So we figured the end of one history - the dark ages of restriction imposed on craft brewers in Ohio – was the perfect moment to resurrect our End of History, and bring it to a whole new market. We will proudly mash in for this epic beer to commemorate the passion, adventure and innovation of the American craft brewing movement that we are joining. It’s going to be quite a ride.
