EAST COAST CRUSH

When we launched the LIVE Beer system last year we did so with a simple aim in mind – to re-imagine what draft ale is for the better and to ensure a perfect pint every time. We proudly gave first pour to LIVE Dead Pony Club and more recently discovered what keg-conditioned LIVE 5AM Saint brought to the party (which was a lot). This week, the latest LIVE Beer hits the unique taps across our network of UK BrewDog Bars – and it is the perfect combination of beer style and dispense method.
Our new LIVE Vermont-style Pale Ale launches tomorrow.
East Coast Crush is a beer that truly embraces the best of cask and keg. The rise of the Vermont IPA over the last twelve months has added an entirely new twist on the British brewing scene, and these intensely juicy, barely bitter beers have taken off when served cool on keg or packaged in bottles or cans. But there is another way – in experimenting with our upcoming IPA we hit on a perfect 4.7% ABV Vermont Pale Ale recipe that lights up when served on draft at 9.5°C through a sparkler.
LIVE Beer is fermented without top pressure and only very lightly centrifuged to remove hop debris. This particular style owes its flavours to the combination of hops and the newly-iconic Vermont Ale yeast so we have retained over two million of these living cells per millilitre into the key keg, conditioned therein and served gently sparkling. No oxygen enters, and no extraneous carbon dioxide is added at the point of serve. LIVE Beer and Vermont Pale Ales are the perfect marriage.
East Coast Crush has a thirty-day shelf life to ensure the quality and consistency of each keg is the same whether you enjoy a pint at BrewDog Castlegate or BrewDog Southampton. Martin Dickie and our team developed LIVE Beer to remove the emphasis some people have on the container a beer sits inside and transfer it to the final product instead. The depth of flavour and mouthfeel that results is ideal for this new style and we can’t wait for you to be able to sample it.
Our new release is dry-hopped with Citra, Mandarina Bavaria, Mosaic and Simcoe for intense juicy tropical and stone-fruit flavours to complement those from the Vermont yeast. East Coast Crush is low in bitterness at 25 IBU but enormously full-bodied and smooth with the flavours of pineapple, mango, peach and a hint of lime zest on the finish. Served through a sparkler from the key keg as LIVE, it is the method of dispense that elevates this style to new heights.
East Coast Crush launches at 6pm tomorrow, Thursday May 11th in every UK BrewDog bar. Whilst there you may also find our latest small-batch 7.5% ABV Vermont IPA, giving the perfect chance to sample two brews with the same yeast but different hoploads. As ever, if you taste our new release then let us know your tasting notes in the comments below!
