It's a requirement at Brew HQ that all staff members understand conversational Russian. This has been particularly handy over the past few days when receiving calls about a certain beer we released last week; to mark the Winter Olympics, we launched Hello My Name is Vladimir, a double IPA brewed with Limonnik berries.
This beer was picked up by a number of Russian press outlets, and we wanted to see what they had to say about it. So we turned to our old friend Google Translate to find out what they thought, and some of the quotes are quite outstanding, so we thought we'd share them with you here...
1. Brewery BrewDog, located in Scotland, began selling new beer designed for "not gay", titled "Hello. My name is Vladimir", on which label painted several portraits Russian President Vladimir Putin, imitating style of the King of Pop, artist Andy Warhol.
So Warhol is the equivalent of Elvis in Russia? Who knew!
2. Hello My Name is Vladimir combines elegant malt sweetness, against which felt an explosion of liberal daring drunken States.
While we don't condone excessive drinking, these liberal States sound like the most fun regions under Obama's jurisdiction.
3. Scottish "hooligans from brewing" is not first time entering the market with unusual offer for lovers of the beer. She has also varieties of "Tactical Nuclear Penguin" (32%) and "dead metaphor" (6.4 %).
Firstly, breweries do not have genders, but we're flattered. Secondly, it's nice of them to pick out another beer we launched just last week as opposed to another high ABV beer alongside Tactical Nuclear Penguin.
4. Easy to guess so Scottish brewers supported worldwide campaign of protest against discrimination the sexual minorities in Russia.
So Scottish. Much protest. Very beer. Wow. BrewDoge.
5. Although a first box with his "brutal" drink they did not sell - sent to the Kremlin new the beer could taste its inspiration.
I like the idea that the beer is tasting its inspiration inside Vladimir's mouth. I wonder how those little bubbles feel in his big warm, wet man mouth.
