MIKKELLER BOOK LAUNCH AND TAKEOVER
Across the length and breadth of the country – and further afield – we love hosting events in our network of BrewDog bars. They are a perfect way to introduce more people to the wonders of great beer, and give everyone a chance to learn something new (or simply have a beer-filled night out). Perhaps one of the reasons why these events are so interesting is they can take many forms – some revolve around tasting beer, others meeting the lucky people who get to make it. Then there’s the ones where pairing beer and food are the main concern.
But there’s also a lesser-known sort. Besides sampling beer, talking about beer, and eating with beer – what of events focused on reading about beer?
We’re proud to announce a truly special event taking place next month, showcasing one of our very favourite breweries. If you’re even remotely familiar with the world of beer, then Mikkeller needs no introduction. If not – then one of the driving forces of European brewing, led by ex-teacher Mikkel Borg Bjergsø; they produce some fascinating beers in some equally fascinating locations. And now, whilst busy doing that, Mikkel and his wife Pernille Pang have written a book – Mikkeller’s Book of Beer – and we are hosting a celebration to launch it!
The launch will take place at BrewDog Camden on Thursday the 19th of March, and will feature not just the chance to take home a copy of Mikkel and Pernille’s words of wisdom, but will signify the start of a four-day Mikkeller tap takeover. Oh yes. A large slice of Copenhagen’s finest will be relocated to London, pouring from our 22 Camden taps. As if that's not all, Mikkel himself will be in attendence from 18:00-19:30 on the Thursday, signing copies of his book. Given the amount and sheer range of Mikkeller beers, this event is going to be something very special indeed.
The book revolves around the main arc of the brewing process, going into indispensable-level detail about how to become a great homebrewer – featuring 25 original Mikkeller brewing recipes – and also covers tasting beer and pairing it with food. During the tap takeover our Camden bar will be serving food specials, and on Sunday the 22nd we will be running a homebrew bootcamp where our resident beer masters will be following one of the recipes from Mikkeller's book!
This is how Mikkel started out, experimenting at home and producing beer in between time spent teaching, and at BrewDog we totally admire him for it. Beers like the Spontan-series and the Beer Geek Breakfasts are world-beaters, there’s simply no other way of putting it.
So if you’re in London from the 19th to the 22nd of March, be sure and keep those dates free – it’s going to be an unmissable occasion. Beer books – who’d have thunk it? Say…maybe we should…
