THE BEER GEEK AWARDS

THE BEER GEEK AWARDS

We are proud to say that we are Beer Geeks – in fact, we have it nailed to the BrewDog Charter. Our crew regularly display epic levels of beery obsession, as do the thousands of people who fill our bars to the rafters, or order BrewDog beers online. This unique individualism is what makes craft beer amazing – people taking an interest and developing it into a passion. That is the mark of a true Geek.

And to celebrate that, we now have the ultimate accolade.

Today, we are launching the Beer Geek Awards to shine a light on the borderline-obsession of those who are as passionate about great craft beer as we are. If you go the extra mile to hunt down the latest releases, document your discoveries and push those tastebuds to the limit then these awards are for you. Beer Geeks are impassioned, fanatical and the very best thing about our industry. So we want to pay it forward by creating a brand new series of awards.

Think yourself a true Beer Geek? You could score a week-long trip to San Diego. Simply head to TheBeerGeekAwards.com to sign up, and apply for one of the following categories:-

· BREWERY HOPPER GEEK

· BEER BAR HOPPER GEEK

· BEER SCHOLAR GEEK

· BEER BLOGGING GEEK

· BEER SOCIAL MEDIA GEEK

· BEER REVIEW GEEK

· BEER TASTING GEEK

Check out the website for the full details on each – and check back on the blog over the coming weeks for a full breakdown of each category. Whatever your branch of Beer Geekery we’ve got it covered, whether you love rocking up to different breweries or writing about that latest IPA release. Everybody’s passion is different, so we have created a series of categories to cover every aspect of the cool and amazing work that – until now – goes largely unheralded.

As part of the Beer Geek Awards, we are running a kick-ass Europe-wide simultaneous beer tasting contest to discover the most legendary Beer Tasting Geek. Check out the website to score Eventbrite tickets and then head to any of our UK or European BrewDog Bars on Wednesday July 26th between 6-8pm to order a special flight of eight mystery beers. Identify each beer correctly, and the top twenty scorers from across the continent will square off in a final round in London at the official awards ceremony!

All categories will be judged by our incredible panel of industry-leading experts (and 24 carat Beer Geeks), consisting of legendary writer Pete Brown, the father of the Cicerone programme Ray Daniels, writer and drinks expert Claire Dodd, Master Cicerone Nicole Erny, Beer Channel kingpin Jonny Garrett and, of course, our own Captain James Watt! They will be running their practiced eyes over all entrants, selecting a victor from each category – plus the overall winner.

Those who top out in each of the individual awards will score a suitably epic trophy and a series of prizes including a weekend trip for two to the Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival. You’ll also be re-judged against the other winners for the ultimate accolade – World’s Biggest Beer Geek 2017 – and that person will also receive a week-long trip to the epicentre of craft beer, San Diego (with appropriately epic brewery tours and bar visits laid on).

To enter, all we ask is that you are over 18 and your main source of income does not already come from the beer industry. The awards are currently open only for Geeks who reside in the UK and Europe – but we are working hard to create a US version so if you are Stateside, your time in the Geeky spotlight will come! Until then, for those keen to showcase their Geeky credentials, head to the website to sign up and enter.

We love being Beer Geeks. Let’s face it, without them the industry would be a far less incredible place in which to live and work. We know that many of you out there love craft beer every bit as much as we do – some of you even more – and so we have formed the Beer Geek Awards to highlight that. You’ve got our back. So now, we have yours.
