THE BEER GEEK AWARDS 2018

Last year we launched a brand new kind of beer contest, designed to reward those of you who are as passionate about great craft beer as we are. The Beer Geek Awards rocked seven different beer-related categories in 2017, with the winners of each facing off to identify and crown the World’s Biggest Beer Geek. After an astonishing 9,851 entries, the overall accolade went to the awesome Lena Olaussen who then headed to San Diego for a beer trip of a lifetime. She (and we) had a blast.

So much so that we are doing it all again. The Beer Geek Awards are back!

For 2018, the Beer Geek Awards are bigger and better than ever. We are running two contests – one in the UK/Europe and the other in the USA. As before, each category winner will be judged against their peers to determine the overall winner but this time Europe’s Biggest Beer Geek and America’s Biggest Beer Geek will then square off across the Atlantic to find Lena’s successor as the World’s Biggest Beer Geek!

The eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed the appearance of a new category – we are looking to showcase passionate beer photographers out there who do amazing work in making craft beer look incredible. If you elevate our science into an art, then head to the website and enter! Whatever your branch of beer geekery, we have it covered with the Beer Geek Awards.

Last year hundreds of you took part in the bar-based sampling session to uncover our Beer Tasting Geek, and the beer flight quiz returns for 2018 – set to take place on the 19th of June. We will be running the sampling in all our UK Bars, selected European BrewDog bars and our US bars (including DogTap Columbus). The top eight tasters from each region will be invited to their respective live final in Summer, and as in 2017 we are assembling a crack panel of judges (including last year’s overall winner Lena).

Everyone who tops out one of the categories will take home a BGA trophy and will score paid travel to an epic beer festival to further their passion. UK/European winners will head to the MASH Festival in Barcelona and US victors will receive a trip to the Great American Beer Festival in Denver. The overall European Biggest Beer Geek will also head to San Diego on a beer holiday, whilst America’s Biggest Beer Geek will travel the other way for a paid vacation in the epicentre of beer culture; Belgium!

Oh, and whichever of the two then becomes the World’s Biggest Beer Geek will also score $1000/€1000 to spend on their travels!

To enter, all we ask is that you are over 18 and your main source of income does not already come from the beer industry. There’s no limit to how many of the seven categories you can enter, so sign up for as many as you like!

We are proud to be Beer Geeks – if you don’t have passion then it makes the world a far less exciting place. We know many people who enjoy our beer are every bit as passionate as we are; and the Beer Geek Awards are there to prove (and reward) it. Beer Geeks, assemble!
